School Garden Project teams up with the UO College of Education to facilitate Lane County’s first Learning Collaborative for Classroom Teachers & Garden Educators
From July 18th-July 22nd, SchoolGardenProject teamed up with the University of Oregon to host a week long intensive in collaboration with Education Studies at the University of Oregon’s College of Education. This intensive aims to expand outdoor learning opportunities for K-8 students by building seamless connections between the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Oregon Environmental Literacy Standards and garden-based education. We look forward to developing long term partnerships with teachers and to help increase students participation in meaningful learning outdoors on school grounds. School Garden Project has been working with Dr. Sarah Riggs Stapleton, assistant professor with the UO’s College of Education in the Education Studies Department. Dr. Stapleton’s research focuses on science education and teacher professional development. The collaboration will continue after the week long intensive through the 2016-17 school year and includes SGP staff, Dr. Stapleton, teacher and garden educator participants as well as special guest facilitators.
